BIOGRAPHY

My name is Kevin Corrigan. I'm an SF-based artist who's originally from Boulder, Colorado. I'm self-taught and work primarily in sketches on paper and in digital media. I feel strongly that as our culture becomes more and more secular and materialist, the role of the artist is to present the life of the imagination and even the "spirit," which also includes the grotesque, humorous, and fanciful, by definition. I agree with William Blake that everything possible of being believed or imagined is an "image of truth." And as our lives become more saturated by material images (be they AI or human-made), the world of the unconscious becomes more important. My work is inspired by artists from all cultures and by the classic children's book illustrators such as Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham. I also take inspiration from dreams, world mythology, the Symbolist poets, Victor Hugo, UFO sightings, 1001 Arabian nights, Surrealism, mid-century design, 80's underground culture/music, classical and world music, as well as weekly forays into nature. And we should never forget the great filmmakers! I'm interested in opportunities to share my work with a wider audience and to collaborate with galleries, curators, and collectors who resonate with my vision. I'm also excited to work with other designers and fabricators on products. Please feel free to contact me to arrange a portfolio review or studio visit.
